2025 Alsace Vineyard Petit Verdot
From Rutherford’s acclaimed Alsace Vineyard, where wines have earned up to 99 points from Wine Spectator and 97 from Robert Parker, this limited release offers a rare chance to work with fruit from one of Napa Valley’s most pedigreed sites. Grown in gravelly loam soils just north of Oakville, this Petit Verdot delivers power, poise, and the unmistakable warmth of Rutherford.
A Rare Expression from Rutherford’s Alsace Vineyard
Situated along the eastern side of Napa Valley, just north of Oakville and bordering the Silverado Trail, Alsace Vineyard represents a cornerstone of Rutherford’s legendary terroir. The vineyard’s wines have been celebrated by top critics, including 97 points from Robert Parker and 99 points from Wine Spectator, confirming its reputation among Napa’s finest producers.
Here, red and brown gravelly loam soils with excellent drainage combine with warm afternoon sun and cool nighttime air to create ideal conditions for small, intensely flavored berries. The result: fruit with rich concentration, polished texture, and Rutherford’s hallmark “dusty” elegance.
The Vineyard & Farming
Planted in 2009 and managed under the expertise of Garvey Vineyard Management, Alsace Vineyard is farmed using sustainable, fish-friendly practices. The ENT400 Petit Verdot clone thrives here, producing loose, open clusters with small, thick-skinned berries that give the must its deep color and layered aromatics.
Precise canopy management allows for even ripening and vibrant natural acidity, while the site’s balanced sunlight exposure ensures structure without harshness — a combination that makes this vineyard a standout source vintage after vintage.
Flavors
This Rutherford Petit Verdot delivers a deeply saturated, dark-hued must with intense aromatic potential. Expect primary notes of dark cherry and dark chocolate, underscored by a vivid violet tone that defines this clone’s varietal identity.
The fruit’s naturally firm structure and balanced acidity provide the foundation for crafting wines that are complex, dark, and approachable, with supple mid-palate texture and polished tannins. Ideal for blending or for producing a standalone Petit Verdot that combines Rutherford’s warmth with refined elegance.
Subtle graphite and Rutherford dust linger, uniting fruit, spice, and minerality in a seamless expression of place.
